2019 Retrospective Gallery Finale: Day 7

It looks like my final tally for 2019 is 2427 minis painted, using the same metrics as the ones I talked about this time last year:

.  I'd hoped to reach the 3000 mark this year, but several very large 15mm commissions fell through and left me taking more jobs for larger 28mm pieces, which take longer to paint.  Also spent quite a bit of time cleaning up some leftover bits and bobs with a month-long kitbashing frenzy, which didn't speed things up any.  Still, I'm up 641 figs from last year so it's movement in the right direction.

So here's one last page of painted figs from 2019:

I did mention I painted a lot of Ground Zero Games 15mm Crusties, right?

These are the light infantry sculpts, with some groundmount weapons and a scout mounted on a horsebug.

Ground Zero Games 15mm IslamaFed ambush team with some wheeled antitank missile drones.

Also a sensor drone to help with lock-ons and EW functions.

Games Workshop plastic fortifications from a few years back.

This lot started out as a commission job, but the customer backed out after it was finished due to losing their job.

After some negotiation, he elected to just turn the models over to me to pay for the painting costs rather than having me hold them till his financial situation improved.

Turned out the local game store was looking for some more 40K terrain, so I worked out a sale to them.

So that worked out all right in the end, at least the models are getting some table use.

I  also got paid for my time and effort, which is kind of important too.

More importantly, I didn't hold on to them long enough to get tempted to buy more 40K figs.  Absolutely addictive, that GW stuff.  :)

And finishing off this year's retrospective, a small force of the OOP old-sculpt EuroFed starships from Brigade Models.

Pretty happy to get a commission to do some of these.

I've done a couple of fleets of the old sculpts in the past, and didn't expect to see any more once they were discontinued.

The new ones are quite nice, but these are also a pleasure to paint.

So it was nice to see another crop of them.

Like old home week, or seeing an old friend from high school again.  :)

And now I'm taking New Year's Eve off.  Enough already,2019.

2019 Retrospective Gallery: Day 6

Update for the penultimate day of this series.

Commission job for some 15mm near future infantry.

Ground Zero Games, I think.

Oh look, it's Orcus.  That's pretty old school.

Large resin model on a 60mm base.

Think he's a Pacesetter piece but not certain, might have been Fractured Dimensions.

He was a commission job as well.

Well sculpted and designed model, assembles nicely.

Can't just have one old demon lord, right?

Jubilex, with custom sculpted 60mm base, done on commission.

Comes with a bunch of "slime spouts" which can be glued into various socket-pores as desired.

Can never see this guy without thinking of the slime boss from PS1 Gauntlet game.

Certainly a well-detailed sculpt, think it was a Fractured Dimensions fig.

28mm scale Reaper naga in Bones plastic.

Good sized fig on a 40mm base.

That actually makes it a younger naga in 13th Age, where they shed physical mass as they get older while gaining spiritual power.

One has to wonder about the mechanics of naga reproduction with the adults being smaller than the young, but it's probably some metaphysical nonsense.

Just one more day and we wrap this up.

2019 Retrospective Gallery: Day 5

Today's look-back as 2019 winds to a close.

15mm Ground Zero Games Crusties.

Done a lot of these over the years in various color schemes.

These are the armored environment suit infantry sans the optional backpacks.

Crusty light mecha with a variety of weapons.

Those are 1.5" bases.

The kits are quite modular with multiple build options and spare arms.

One of the crusty heavy mecha done for commission.

2" base here for better stability, it's quite hefty.

A bit of a pain to assemble but a nice kit overall.

A small Hawkwood fleet for Fading Suns & Noble Armada.

There are some small conversions here, mostly turret replacements.

These were an ebay purchase and came with some missing parts.

The four Sawfly-class command frigates are pretty rare, Mongoose didn't produce a ton of them.

Some lightly kitbashed horror figs, using Paizo and Reaper models.

I rather like the idea of a fortune teller with a Cthulhu Mythos crystal ball.

Getting close to the end now.

2019 Retrospective Gallery: Day 4

Today's lots include some starship kitbashes and a few 28mm fantasy pieces done for roleplaying and fantasy skirmish gaming.

A small fleet of kitbashed alien starships built from spare parts.

Reaper basilisk on 40mm base.

Reaper winged ape on a 40mm base.

More Dreamblade drakesnails, re-based on 60mm bases.

Quite a good fit for Gloranthan dragonsnails, which are prone to Chaotic mutation.

Reaper spider, re-posed and mounted on a 120mm base.

The smaller spiders acting as base dressing are from Mortal Arrow.

Retrospective continues tomorrow.
